Angola’s Catumbela Airport May Receive International Flights from 2019

The airport of Catumbela, in Angola’s Benguela province, will be able to receive international flights in the first few months of 2019, the director of the country’s airport management company ENANA said on Wednesday, 28th November 2018.

Armindo Chambassuco, speaking to the Angolan news agency during a visit by transport minister, Ricardo de Abreu, to the airport, said that the five stages of the process for the certification of the terminal by the National Civil Aviation Institute (Inavic) were close to being completed.

“When Inavic delivers the certificate, the process is finished, and Catumbela airport can start receiving international flights,” he said.

Inaugurated in August 2012, as part of the Angolan government’s strategy for airport development in the southern region of the country, Catumbela airport, which looks out over the sea, is located between the cities of Benguela and Lobito, with projected capacity for 2.2 million passengers per year.
